Here at the PEARL Research Collaborative, our studies involve using advanced MRI technology to study the fetal brain and development.

What is aN mri?

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues within the body. MRI can help with viewing injuries, tumours, certain heart problems, and more.

Specifically for pregnancy, MRI can provide images of a developing baby's brain and monitor the health of the placenta. Novel functional Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques have been developed to study placental function. This involves a short MRI sequence of less than 10 minutes and can provide a quick assessment of placental health.
